Lola loves the brands we work with + the hearts behind them, we think you’ll love them too.
Meet Courtney Kates, owner and designer of luxe sleepwear brand Maison Du Soir.
Q+A with Courtney
When did you know that you wanted to be a designer?
I have an entrepreneurial spirit and finding a missing aesthetic in the sleepwear market ignited that passion. Designing a collection came so quickly and easily around my idea of reinventing our perception of sleepwear. So I didn’t necessarily decide I wanted to be a designer, it came about inherently as part of the process of developing a bigger idea.
What are your biggest inspirations?
High fashion, travel and fairy tales.
What has been the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome as a designer//business owner?
Accounting. There is no glamorous answer for this one.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of owning Maison Du Soir?
Learning that I was stronger than I imagined and meeting incredible people along the way.
What are your everyday go-to pieces?
The Petunia Tank is pretty much an everyday piece in the summer and the Greta long sleeve in the winter. They are just so easy and fit all my requirements: soft fabric, easy non-clinging silhouettes, covers all the right places, but still stylish and flattering.
